Jim Dugan Photography on display at Hole In The Wall Bagels
Staff and friends of the Good Tern Co-op are excited to present the spring art exhibition featuring the photographic works of Jim Dugan, on display at the Co-op Gallery inside Hole in the Wall Bagels, at 754 Main Street in Rockland. A reception, free and open to the public, is scheduled for Sunday, April 6th, from 2:30 to 4:00 p.m. All are welcome to attend, to meet the artist and enjoy light refreshments.
If you can’t make it to the reception, stop by during business hours between April and June to view these works—and maybe grab a tasty bite to eat: Hole in the Wall is open daily 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. year-round.
An Interview with Jim Dugan, by Eileen Murray:
A trip into Jim Dugan’s studio reveals variety and surprises. Jim calls himself a generalist as his work in both fine art and commercial photography covers diverse subjects. His work includes portraits, food, furniture and products. And, of course, being on the water in Maine.
For the last 20+ years Jim has spent one week a year aboard the Mary Day schooner out of Camden. He offers photography lessons and guidance to that week’s charter guests. The combination of continuity of place over time, along with ever changing wind, water, light, has led to a rich understanding of his subject matter, and new ways of expressing that through photography.
Jim’s guidance for both the photographer and viewer includes perceiving the photograph’s composition, depth, direction, balance. Questions and concepts to keep in mind are what is the subject? What is the light doing? Where is the eye drawn to? Is there movement? Texture?
Jim’s current work is almost exclusively with digital photography. Being an early adopter of computer technology, Jim expanded his photographic work to include drone assisted photography. The bird’s eye view reveals new ways of seeing his subjects. Looking at some of his photographs I had to ask: were you physically above or in front of that subject, or were you using drone technology to get that shot?
A selection of Jim Dugan’s photographs will be on display in the Co-op Gallery at Hole In The Wall Bagels from April through June.
Many of Jim’s prints are available for sale. All his photographs are printed with archival ink and paper, keeping quality and longevity in mind. You can view more of Jim’s work on his website: https://jimdugan.com/
